IF YOU COULD SEE WHAT I SEE… It is one of those questions of the Ages – “What is it that an artist sees that others don’t?” And while there are those who ponder the question and search in deep places for the answers, they are really hidden in plain sight! Simply, the artist – like most of us, can do very little about the chaos around them. But they can reduce ideas and images to perfect order and reasoning on the squares and rectangles of canvas and before them, and in doing so, stop and smell the roses. That’s what Carol Wakefield does – she stops and smells the roses for all those too busy to have noticed that they were always there. She doesn’t paint “the Big Picture”, but rather all those little pictures that were hiding in it, bringing them to “life” on those squares and rectangles of canvas and paper before her for the viewer to explore and see what she saw!
